Part III: Putting It All Together: You've developed your price lists, created your operating budget and even know how to explain the difference between assets and equity. Now what?  Attend the third part of our workshop and put everything together in a comprehensive financial plan complete with all four financial statements.

By the end of this workshop "series within a series", participants should have a basic understanding of business finances, be empowered to develop their own projections and be able to explain the projections to a small group of business people.


Participants should bring their laptop to this workshop, as it will be hands on and interactive. Please make sure to download the SCORE.org financial plan template prior to attending the class.

Legal Considerations for Fashion Startups: This workshop is perfect for fashion entrepreneurs who want to learn more about some of the legal issues to take into consideration when starting a business. The workshop will also have a representative from DCRA to provide some targeted insight into the corporate and licensing process for DC.

“Fashionably Business”- Business Plan Competition

The Capstone of the Fashionably Business- H Street program is the inaugural launch of a business plan competition specifically for fashion-oriented businesses.  The purpose of the competition is to provide a source of needed micro funding for promising existing and emerging fashion businesses. In order to compete, the fashion business must:

  • Be an existing DC-based fashion business or a newly established fashion business that will be registered in Washington, DC;
  • Demonstrate financial need;
  • Submit a complete business plan that clearly demonstrates a sustainable business model; and
  • Demonstrate interest and commitment to helping expand DC’s fashion industry.

The Fashionably Business Plan Competition consists of two rounds: Round 1: Letter of Intent and submission of the Executive Summary and Round 2: Invitation to submit a full business plan and panel interview.  A total of $5,500 in cash and other prizes are available for the 1st ($3,500), 2nd ($1,500) and 3rd place ($500) competition winners.

Entrants are encouraged to take advantage of the free workshops and technical assistance to assist them with writing a solid business plan and preparing for the competition.

GWFCC is partnering up with the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DC DSLBD) to conduct its first Fashion Business Clinic at the eBIC Center at MLK Library. The purpose of this clinic is to provide our members with access to professional business advice that is related to their fashion businesses.  Members will hear presentations (geared for fashion businesses) from legal, banking, and accounting professionals and then have the opportunity to meet with 2-3 business professionals for 15 minute one-on-one consultations.  Members are asked to bring their business issues and questions as well as their business cards because there will be time for networking.
